wanakio2008 pre-event in Tokyo
 wanakio2008 : The town art exhibition in Okinawa



What is wanakio?

This is the art project in Okinawa as called wanakio that has been irregularly held since 2002 is the fourth time in this November. The artist, Chiharu Mizukawa and Masaru Iwai, of this exhibition, and the curator, Emiko Kato, participate in this coming wanakio2008 from the parts of Young Aggressive Aspect curated by Emiko Kato at Galaxy Countach in Nishi-Shinjuku.  wanakio is an international art exhibition unlike a white-cube museum exhibitions, it would be more experimental and challenging art project. The participating artists from both domestic and overseas are elected by the recommendation and the public advertisement, and they work themselves in a while staying in Okinawa local towns for developing their projects and collaborating with the local resources and people.

In all over the world, wanakio has been paid to attention, as a unique cultural project considering the things on regionality and community in Okinawa with the international perspective since the beginning in 2002. The exhibition sites are at the vacant store, the running store, the free spaces, and the public streets, etc. in the all over Okinawa Honto (the main island), As examples, Sakae-cho Market and Noren wholesale market are the exciting locations for the art exhibitions. In the exhibition period, a variety of art events will be held, and the various people will make intersect.

Participating artists of wanakio2008, as Chiharu Mizukawa, Masaru Iwai, Katsuko Ishigaki will come to make release their works (projects) respectively, and Jun Miyagi, Co-Director of wanakio2008 will announce what is wanakio2008 and highlights in this events. Other special guests will be involved.
